not quite OT: motherboard shopping

Does anyone know of a motherboard that doesn't come with on-board audio? I don't want to have to disable on-board audio and have a bunch of conflicts when I install a high end audio card. What's more is it seem like such a waste of an upgrade slot.

If you disable onboard audio in the motherboard BIOS instead of in Windows, then Windows should never even know it existed. I think you'll be seriously limiting your choices if you only look at MBs that don't have onboard sound. If you need help diabling it in the BIOS, shoot me an email.

I don't know of any motherboards that don't have on-board audio. It's built in to the southbridge on some/most/all chipsets. However on-board sound can be disabled in bios easily. Then it doesn't use any resourses, and will not conflict with your audio card. On-board sound doesn't use a upgrade slot, hence the name onboard.

Note that some do have an extra I/O board or something similar that could use a slot on the case but if your not using the on-board sound chip then you don't install this anyway.

The only ones I can think of off hand that don't have onboard audio would be some server boards, but they tend to not have a lot of consumer level features. As the other posts above state, just disable the onboard audio in the system bios (the manual should tell how to do this), and there should be no conflicts.

also some motherboards will have a jumper on the board its self to disable the audio. Onboard audio does suck the only one that didnt was Nvidia's a few years back on one of there chipsets. i hear they have a good one on new boards , since im not an amd guy i cant say.
