Idea
6-1/2" SHIELDED POLY WOOFER 12 OHM 299-130
Im thinking of doing an mtm desighn of this driver for my mains. If i did i would wire the speakers in parralle and in parralele with a tweeter. I dont have a tweeter in mind nor a box. I will probably use a sealed box considering that these things will be crossed at 100 to 150hz. My questions are what box size should i use, what tweeter to use i would prefere the dayton silky, spl rating of the intire system with recomened or best tweeter, overall system impeadance with recomended or best tweeter, lowest impeadance dip the given frequincy range, overall impedance with recomended tweeter. Thanks so much. If this is toomuch work just tell my to go somehwere and buy some cheap speakers. My goal of this desighn is to make a speaker thats efficient, will play to 110db +, stays within my amps speaker impedance suport ( 6ohms , and is cheap.

Yes

Well, you COULD use a parallel xo topology.

You've been here long enough to know better (unless you're a NEW Trevor). You can't just guess at a box size. What are the driver's Qts, Fs, and Vas?

I like that silky. I've used it many times.

With 2 parallelled 12 ohm woofers you'd have a 6 ohm nominal system, but then you knew that. To design a nominal xo you need frd/zma files for these drivers. Do you have them?

Trevor, download a copy of WinISD from the FRD consortium...it will allow you to input the parameters of the driver and then you can play around with box size, port (if need be) and see the response graph, simulated, of course. I've used Win ISD many times to come up with enclosures for subs, MTM's, TM's, etc. and have always been happy with the end results. Now, I can't do my own XO's yet, but I'm getting there...maybe next year sometime when I get an appropriate measuring/testing set-up. Chris is right on track...once you figure out an enclosure, he might be able to help with a tweeter recommendation and possibly a XO alignment.

Re: Idea
That driver is cheap but I don't think it's gonna get you where you want to go. It has low sensitivity (84 db/W) and that's before baffle step comp. Additionally it has a very high Qts which means it can't be ported and the optimum sealed box is going to be very big. The low sensitivity coupled with the high Qts leads me to believe that this driver has a very weak motor structure. I doubt that even with two of them you're going to get the 110db you want. I didn't run the numbers but others have suggested that you get winISD and run them yourself and see waht you get.
