Thread: Woofers

  1. #1

    Default Woofers

    Is there any possible way for companies to make an 8" woofer with an Fs around 25hz, Vas of 1.5cuft, spl of 91 1w/1m, and QTS of 0.4

    I think that would be the dream driver. How do these commercial companies make such small enclosures with good bass.

    Almost an MCM 55-2421;

    I've got one in a duanebro 0.5 cu. ft slot-port box.
    I know I'll get flamed for steering you to this, but my 8 incher hasn't come apart yet and Bill FitzMaurice recommends them in his Tuba 18's and AutoTuba's.
    So a lot of people have used them.
    It's the only 8 incher so far that can handle 'Laurie Andersons - Life On A String'...
    It's wild to see that cone pump it's arse off to keep up.
    I haven't tried the Quattro 8 yet, but it's on my list.
    Oh yeah, that duanebro box sure kicks bootie. Nice design as to how it solves long port lengths and chuffing.

    To answer you question succinctly . . . It's impossible to get those specs.

    If you have Fs = 25, Qts = .41, and Vas = 42L, then the sensitivity is ~77dB/w. You just can't get all those specs together. If you want 91dB, then Vas will have to be MUCH higher.

    All those cemmercial companies use low to mid effiency drivers coupled with massive amplification and gobs and gobs of equalization.
    In other words, the Drake.

    The WinISD DB has this driver:
    Audiomobile M 2010 S4
    Qts=39
    Vas=1.6
    Fs=26
    SPL=88
    However, this is listed as a 10" driver.

    What interests you in this suite of T/S parms?
