Default Old Sub new and imporved cabinet! *PIC*

    Provided Link: More Photos

Been having the itch to build another speaker, but my speaker building budget is busted. (Baby on the way!) I took a look in the garage, I had 1 4x8 sheet 3/4” MDF, and a sheet of Formica left over from my new kitchen. Ok I’ll build a new cabinet for my sub.

12” Titanic MKII w/250w PE plate amp, I had it in a 2cf sealed ¾’ mdf. It sounded great, but I did get a lot of noise from the cabinet.

So I built a 2cf 1.5” thick cabinet. (two layers of ¾” mdf). This thing is heavy. Bass is *much* tighter and I don’t hear any noise from the cabinet. It doesn’t move around the floor like it use to. Plus I covered it with the nice granite like Formica so it look just as good as it sounds. I am very happy with this change. If you can afford the bigger cabinet with the thicker walls it is well worth it!!!

I wish everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!

    Well done Doug! Nice pics.

So do you need to use the bass boost on that amp or is it just flat? scp53

    Thanks!

No bass boost. At the levels I like to listen the 250w amp clips way too much when running
    boost.

Room gain seems to fill in the low end enough.

Thats exactly why I took the boost off! PE really needs to get a bigger amp on the 10in titanic mk3 kit OR use the 240 wt plate amp. First day I got the sub I clipped it really easy. Modded it and that fixed it some but still can clip easy without pushing the driver much. scp53

It is just 4ohm load and boost it too much for it. 8 ohm load and boost is fine..

All in all the 250 is not a bad amp for the money.

Why would it be better on a 8 ohm load? At 8 ohms, the amp obviously has less power.

My whole point about the 250wt is that its a poor sub for my 10in titanic mk3 in a sealed box. Even with out the boost, it still clips easy on all but the deepest freq. IMHO, a nice 500 watt is needed to drive my titanic to its potential(especially on music).
