    Default Alternatives to BR-1 ?

Is there anything out there for less than $200/pr, that I could BUILD OR BUY, and is better than the BR-1 ?

I am open to building from scratch or buying from a BestBuy shelf but it has to be less than $200 and perform as good as or better than the BR-1, or better than a possible design using BR-1 drivers.

Preferably a 6" or larger driver.

Look into GR-Research's AV-1 kit. It is a big step up in quality. The mids are incredible for the price and the bass is surprisingly strong.

Default The BR-1 is hard to beat.

    Provided Link: Crossover alternative

If you decide to go with it, I'd suggest using Dennis Murphy's crossover instead.

Why not check out the Dayton III designed by Wayne? I have built both BR-1 and D3 and I can say that D3 surely performs better. Assuming you can build the cabinets yourself for little or no cost, you can build D3 for under $200.

BR-1 bigger brother. 8" "Classic" (-310) and the silky in 1.7 cf vented. (Like Noah's 8 in the Showcase). Mids not as nice as the 6.5" but unbelieveable bass.
