    Default Vinyl score: Chase *PIC*

I picked up a mint copy of the original Chase LP this weekend. If anyone who hangs out here is a trumpet player, and you’ve never heard Bill Chase, then you are in for at treat! Unfortunately the original master tapes of this 70’s Rock/Jazz band were 'lost', so the CD versions suffer from poorer sound. Find the LP if you can.

If you like early Chicago and BS&T, then Chase needs to be on your short list.

    Good stuff.

Google "Bill Chase Death Conspiracy" (the newsgroups).

Any one who likes Chase will also enjoy the Maynard Ferguson albums from the '70's (MF Horn 1, 2, 3, and 4&5; I list it that way becase the first 3 were single albums, and 4&5 was a double album). If you know Maynard but not Chase, check it out. You'll like it.

Default Thanks for the tip on fine music

I really appreciate when someone points to some great music. I don't think we do enough of that on this forum. Enjoying great speakers with fine tunes is really what it's all about. This seems to be right up my alley. I'm not familiar with Bill Chase, but will definitely check him out.

I also second the ref to Maynard Ferguson. His version of Chameleon, the super phat Herbie Hancock funk track is killer.

Another favorite of mine is Charles Earland.

    Default Other Chase albums?

Yeah, I also picked that up on vinyl not too long ago. Do you know if the other couple Chase albums are worth picking up?

The CD reissues of early BS&T have cool bonus cuts.

The old hit "Evil Woman" by Crow was also a cool "horn song," but they weren't a horn band.

An absolute must-have if you liked the horn bands of the seventies. Bill Chase was an inspiration to many horn bands and his band could out-play all of them. Brings back many memories of what I was doing in college and who I was doing it with.

Other albums... Ennea and Pure Music... both albums can be found on one CD. I still think PURE MUSIC is the best of all of them.

How about Tower of Power? They were another full-throttle horn band that could get your blood pumping...

    Default I play(ed) trumpet...

and have heard quite a few that I like. IIRC, it was Joe Blaze(?) that did "Get It On", and the music is phenomenal! I don't think the recording was though. I don't really care for Maynard F., and I like Doc quite a bit. I still don't have his Telarc discs.
