    Default Shock & Awe H/T Sub (RSS315HF)

Provided Link: Dayton RSS315HF 12" Test Data

Working on ported sub enclosure design using the Dayton RSS315HF 12" sub and Dayton 500W plate amp. (Yes I got both before they went B/O!) Used T/S parameters from link below and came up with a SBB4 ported enclosure of 3 cf tuned to 20 Hz. Question - Where do I locate the flared 4" port? On front with Sub, bottom, or side. Back with plate amp is not an option.
    Thanks!

I ran into the same thing on my Gossamer. It ended up as a tower design with a small footprint about 14.5" square and 36" tall with the feet. The driver fires from one of the sides and the port is on the bottom of the enclosure. That's about the only way you are going to fit the 4" port without using an elbow. FWIW, I think you are really going to like what you hear from your project. The Gossamer can punch like Ali and is very accurate.

I guess I don't have a problem with using an elbow (or two)in the port tube. I found that the PE 4" flared port fits perfectly with the PVC thin-wall SDR drain pipe and fittings from Home Depot. My simulation shows a port length of ~25" for a box tuning of 20Hz. With room gain near 30 Hz and a parametric tweak in the mid 30's this thing should really shake the footings. I guess what I was after was an opinion as to the good/bad about having the port in front along with driver or shooting the port into the carpet or pushing it out the side? My sub experience has been with sealed enclosures to date. Thanks!

Really anywhere you want to put the port is fine. My feeling about downfiring is just to allow enough distance between the mouth of the port and the floor. Say one port diameter minimum. That's how I have mine set-up and I hear no ill effects. Wolf's Marianas sub also uses a down firing port and there's no issue with it either.

Gossamer is clean as a whistle waaaaaaaaaay down deep. I've ran a 1 Hz tone through it ONCE and continued the sweep up at 1 Hz steps and things get really hairy around the house starting at 10 Hz. Once it gets up to 16 Hz it's like my head is going to pop. In short, you should definitely be able to shake things up in your place just fine.
