Default OT a little, TV's is the subject.

Let's say my 1982 Curtis Mathis 42" is getting ready to go to the that little place in the sky. What would be the CHEAPEST way to go getting something new in the house? I don't care about all the plasma, HD, mumbo jumbo. Would a 36" tube be it? Or is there some rear projector that is'nt too bad? Any help would greatly apperciated. Your brother in DIY Ken.

    Whats up brother Ken?
Hey,DLP,LSD,Plasma, have come a long way. CRT's are still the way to go in my opinion. Better contrast and true blacks. Sure, they are a little bulky but there still cheaper.

I love my 46" Sony CRT-based RPTV. pd $1350 in 04. Not sure if the Sony's are still avail, but the Hitachis are very similar. I think they are around $1200 in that size.

Default But the colors from LSD are really vibrant

Now if the ceiling would stop dripping maple syrup and the spider monkey would stop giving me wedgies that would be great.

I find plasmas and all those flat screen tvs, either look too grainy or too sharp. i dont care for their picture "quality" one bit. I have a 36 Sony vega (you can probaly get the 40" version now for about $1300). I honestly think its one of the best pictures ive ever seen. However my girlfriends step dad has a Hitachi 70" widescreen DLP (current model is LCD) rear projection that also has an amazing picture (best large screen ive seen). But he paid about $5000 for it right when it came out.

The cheapest way to get something really new that will look more like a real cinema than you've ever seen and will blow your socks off would be an Infocus DLP front projector with a 100" DIY blackout cloth screen. On sale about $800, including ceiling mount and cables. You need space and a dark room.
