Default Bass guitar gurus. Cab ?

My friend wants me to build him a bass cab. He plays "funk" bass does some slapping and all that. His head amp is only 300W and they run him through the PA. Any pointers to put me in the right direction? Thanks for all the help. Robert.

Hey there, Sure do. I use a pair of the Eminence Beta 10"s in parallel in a 3 cubic foot vented cabinet. It soaks up my SWR 400 watt rms @ 4 ohms head very nicely when I'm not bi-amping with the 18"er.

Well, if he only wants to build one to save money, have him take a look at Avatar speakers. It's been a couple years since I priced it out, but they used to be darn comparable in price to building your own, and they're very well made. I own the b210 and it's a nice cabinet. Search for reviews. On the other hand, if he wants to build for the fun of building, have at it! I've always wanted to build a Moskowitz, but haven't gotten to it. <A HREF="http://www.core-sound.com/bottom-article.html">http://www.core-sound.com/bottom-article.html</A>

If his style includes 'funk', then you are going to want a horn in there for some high-end response. That will help bring out the slap and pop sounds from the bass.

Four Legend BP102's or Beta 10's. And a DH200E for the high end (don't try this with a $10 bullet tweetr because you'll be repalcing diaphragms every two days). The real low end can be supplemented with the PA quite easily (assuming it's good enough). You have a couple of options running through the PA. Miked, direct, or combination of both.

Default YES!!! this is my combo. Warren is the shiznit !!!

I have the BP102 and DH200E combo. The BP102 takes a huge box, but it plays my low string (4-string bass here) beautifully. I have switches to run the DH200 in 4 different xover settings (and an attentuator) depending on the room and my hearing that day.

    As always, thx Warren.
