Psh! It's made of that ultra-coarse chip board. WORSE than ply, IMO.

I have the feeling that in a head to head competition, most of the guys here would rate the Jensen ahead of the Bose Acoustimass. It would be an interesting challenge. And for $58 inc shipping its a cheap experiment.

    Nothing.

For starters, the Bose model barely passes as a woofer as far as frequency output, Not even close to subwoofer land.

Second, the range if the little plastic cubes is so far short of where it should be that the bass module covers well into the male vocal range. The problem is that we don't have a direct radiator on those frequencies, and it's so far removed from the other modules that the result is normally a huge lack of response between the two - right in the vocal range.

All this to explain the responses you've heard so far. That Bose setup is a marvel in failed engineering and marketing success. In very specific setups, respons can ba adequate if not a little chincy sounding. But no one EVER actually uses them that way because it defeats the purpose of the marketing.

I'm intrigued by your question though I did not understand what you were actually asking.

Klipch has a few models, that are much better, and only about 300-400 for the system.

I don't remember the models, but comp usa stocks them. Try one you will be surprised, and if you did a side by side, you'll thow the bose in the can.

OMG... Bose and subwoofer in the same sentence.. Buuhhhhaaaaa!! Once I get back up off the floor.... fell outa my chair laughing... Maybe I can make a constructive suggestion.....

No!! Sorry. Trevor!!! Please say it isn't so? You listened to these and actually thought they sound good? Man... you're living proof "people" wouldn't know good sound if walked right up, spit in their face and stole their wallets! Ahh, see... that wasn't very nice. Now I gotta apologize. Please don't take this personally. I got a little carried away.

OK.. I think I can make a good suggestion now. Go get ANY sub from this site. ANYTHING. There's no way it won't beat the pants off the Bose thing.

Let me re-aliterate. I liked depth of it, but as for the quality of the depth... It sounded like Sh*t. Now i wouldnt waste my time with it. I just hadnt heard or felt hz that low in a while. But i do agree that even though it can produce the low's, it sounds terrible.

To answer your question a little more specifically, any decent 6" or larger woofer will do with a small plate amp. The woofer is probably crossed over pretty high, at least 150 hz or so, if not more.
I think we all have the reflex of rolling our eyes when anyone says Bose.

Ihope that's a little more helpful

Damn.. I wish I could find the detailed review I had on this system.. maybe it's in one of my old Stereo Review mags.. I'll have to look.
See the problem with the Acoustimass is that it doesn't go that low, or high, and it has a big hole in the response. The bass module covers from 46hz to 180hz, and the cubes go from 280hz to 13.3khz. I have pro audio subs at home that go lower, and I bet my car audio system has more high end. I just can't believe anybody could listen to this and actually like it.
