The lowpass will have to cross pretty high, yes? Does that exclude the RS270? And if you're crossing to the tweeter at 3K+, does that suggest a 3/4" tweeter, like the Vifa XT19?

Notching out the peak should be easy, and the response will allow quite tall crossover frequencies with excellent power response.

I envision a 3 way with the RS225 and ??? 3/4" tweeter, all in a nice slim 50 liter floorstander...

Anyone else hae any thoughts?

It will depend on how 'robust' the mid is. I'm thinking about 700 Hz will probably be the useful low end, but that will remain to be seen. I'd lean more towards the RS225, but I'm sure someone will try the RS270/RS52 combo with steep slopes and an impedance filter at fs...

Never having really worked on a W-M-T design, I don't know how "low" or "high" the W would be crossed. Sure looks to me like you could cross the W at 700 or 750, might need an 18 db slope -- is that considered "low"? And with the flatness up to 10K, certainly you could cross to the tweeter at higher than 3K if you wanted -- or am I off base?

This is of concern. I have not asked questions like this in a while -- no time, no real inclination either. Does this mean I am back in the game? Yikes!

BTW, as to box, Curt, your assignment is to design something that can be used (as did another person who posts here) to simulate the looks of the Orion, but using a 3 way design.

I've already got enough things to horse around with and along comes the RS mid being available to us. Super. Well I guess the tab for PE just got a bit larger.

I actually can't wait to start the modeling. If all goes well, Paul K's RS225 T/L design will be up and kicking soon. Anyone else think it's a waste of an RS tweeter to use it with the RS mid? Damn I love this hobby.

I crossed at 2.9k LR2 which is about as low as I'd go low order, Probably could do LR4 downn to 2.5k though

Is this for your RS3? I noticed that the seas tweeter was discontinued and there were only a few left. I was going to snatch them real quick, but I decided that was way to evil.

a 3-way with the RS225, an MDM55 and an XT19. I considered the RS52 but its large flange diameter makes it difficult to optimally utilize a 3/4-inch tweeter at a desirably higher corner between the two. So, the system is going to be a tapered TL for the RS225 with a modeled F3 of 33 Hz (per Martin King's updated Mathcad worksheets). I'm just now starting detailed drawings which will lead to making sawdust in a few weeks.

Hey Paul, that sounds so sweet. I've at times thought of doing a TL but that's a lot of precise cuts, angles, etc. and I don't own a table saw. One of these day's I will. I just need to stop buying speakers and save for awhile. I don't need an expensive one but just one that has an excellent guide with clamping mechanism, can cut through hardwood that I use from time to time and a fairly decent table top. Any suggestions?
