Default Slightly O:T: New soldering gun

    Hi Guys,

Yesterday, I was at a show of sorts, and seen a couple of new soldering guns by Weller. One is a 900 watt model, and the other is a 1500 watter.
They are both battery operated, and pretty small.
What I want to share with you is, the 1500 watter
is what they call a cold shot. BUT, KEEP IT AWAY FROM CIRCUIT BOARDS! It works on a principle of an arc. Arcs + boards= BAD. But you knew that already! Just some heads up.

What would you use that for?? Soldering copper pipes?! Wow, i refuse to use anything over 100w for my circuits, let alone 1500w

    Default Cold Heat

It sounds an awfully like that Cold Heat soldering iron. I actually had one of these, as I thought it would be nice to solder inside customers' aircraft (high dollar Beechcraft, and Cessna Citations) without having to dismatle the interior. THESE THINGS ARE JUNK! Good luck getting a good solder joint. As for the unit not heating up, straight BS.

Boy, I can sure agree on that one! Those "Cold Heat" things equal "cold solder joint".
