Default Who bought that 35" monster subwoofer at the tent?

Ok not 35" maybe 18"? Who bought that larger than life sub at the tent sale? I saw it out of the box and a few guys talking about the magnet structure or something. Just curious of the spec's and what it will be used for. Looks like a lot of fun. Can you post a pic?

    Thanks

I don't remember who bought it but I know he was really stoked about it. I was going to take it but he just looked so excited. BTW, I found out you gotta be careful at the tent event. I ended up paying MORE THAN REGULAR price for two part# 129-048! Oh well, Let the buyer beware.

    Default NEENER! heehee.... *PIC*

    Provided Link: LVS15 Xmax movie!

    > Ok not 35" maybe 18"?

    15" monster!

    Who bought
    > that larger than life sub at the tent sale?

    Yep, I did! =-)

    > I saw it out of the box and a few guys

It was probably me that was talking/holding it! I helped the older-than-me guy get it out of the box! Probably about 40#'s+!

Just curious of the spec's and
    > what it will be used for.

Dayton 'LVS15' prototype Specs, as derived by the WT2:
Re 1.6683 (dual 4ohm in parallel)
    Fs 29.8173
    Qes .7335
    Qms 4.6133
    Qts .6329
    Zmax 12.1609
    Le 1.3234
    Vas 62.0676 ltr
    Sd 823.71 cm2
    Bl 13.6526
    Mms 437g
    Sensitivity 92.1577dB @ 2.83V
Xmax appears to be about 1" one-way.

I've modelled up a 2.75ft^3 box, with a 4"(minimum) 10" long vent. I get an F3 of 26Hz, and the capability to SLAM LIKE MAD! It will be a form of sono-sub, but tastefully done. I could use a 6" diameter vent(or 2 4" vents for about the same), but they'd be 22-26" long, and won't fit in that small of an enclosure. If I don't run 500W+ to it very often, it'll be unchuffable, but not really that badly when breaching 750W.

    Looks like a lot
    > of fun. Can you post a pic?

It will be a LOT of fun, and I can do better!
15Hz sinewave tone, at about 3/4" p-p Xmax. VC height is 1" above the magnet when stationary. MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE!!!!!! I guess it's good when you only pay $64 for about a $1k subwoofer. I can't complain.

Apparently, (according to Darren) the same company that made this woofer also makes/made the 'LVS' subs for the mobile-sound company known as Memphis, hence the name I've given it.
I hope you enjoy the woofer-porn!

I wouldn't count on dual 4" ports as being 'unchuffable', but certainly give it all you can. Good luck building a box strong enough to support it too, that thing really IS a monster!

Dual 4" are barely smaller in area than a 6" port. According to the Unibox model, it'll be fine through most of the range with a single 4" port. I will double baffle, maybe triple, and use well-nuts and machine screws!

I always wondered why some of these heavier drivers don't have a wider flange to allow for the bolts to be mounted further into the baffle. You know, when the mounting holes are so close to the basket that when you make the cut-out in the baffle you've only got like 1/2" of beef to hold onto those screws. Give it a little more room and you could get a much stonger hold in the wood I say. Of course this would result in a larger required baffle width.

Default YOU NEED DUAL 6" PORTS!!!!! *NM*

    You need more portage...

Go with a slot port, and you can twist it up the back if you need to... Just put the amp on the side. Also, you _could_ make the box a little oversize/long enough for the ports. You're gonna have to brace the heck out of it.

I saw this and spoke to a woofer manufacturer about it.

Double, big-diameter spiders is the reason for the double basket.

If the motor is built right from tight enough tolerance parts you don't need two spiders to keep everything aligned. If you need a stiffer spider, they are available, you don't need two. The limiting factor on p-p excursion is going to be the surround anyway.

    It is cool, though.

    IIRC it's WAY inefficient.

Who says you have to have them inside, anyway? ;-)
Why not go for the "serious exhaust pipe look" and have a set of virtual headers coiling around and up from the box? Would add to the Macho, dowright dangerous image it's already got going on...

Why not some polycarbonate viewing ports of the "motor" bathed in blue neon too!

Wolf ya gotta show us some pic's when ya tackle that monster!

    85dB at 1w/1m, 92dB at 2.83V/1m, driving 2ohms in parallel.
    Lower than some others!
