Well, I got my money's worth...
Less than 2 months ago, I ordered a couple of pair of the Legacy 6.5" auto speakers for my trailer, PE part number 265-296 (PE, my order number was 1583632). These are cheap, and include a grille, which I needed for the trailer ceiling. I wasn't out for fidelity, rather I sought to replace the really awful things that were in there.
Well, those speakers are cheap, all right. They are Chinese made ultra cheap. In a month of sitting up in the ceiling, occasionaly run from the one watt amp of the trailer's radio, one of them failed. The voice coil connection to the woofer opened, and there is now sound only from the tweeter. Pressing on the cone where the wires are (supposed to be ) bonded together, the woofer works - until I remove my hand.
Black list the Legacy 265-296. I should know better than to use ultra cheap Chinese ___ (fill in your choice of expletive), and expect myself to be satisfied. I learned my lesson (

Well Victor, cheap and quality almost never go hand in hand. That's why I fail to see the forum's excitement about the BB's Insignias. I'd call them disposable speakers, along with your Legacies. Time to build some yourself, Victor!

Wow I was afraid to say something about the insignias. Bought a pair about a month ago and they sounded horrible! They immediately went back to BB without even trying to modify them.

Re: Well, I got my money's worth...
I was with you on the Insignias. I got a set and my Minimus 7’s were an order of magnitude better sounding. Then I placed them out in the open, connected to a low source impedance amp, and they sounded better than the 7’s. They do not do well in the corners of a room. They do much better with some space behind them and I plan to use them as rears, perhaps with the ports plugged.

I had the same feelings...a friend got a pair and was interested in what I thought of them. Who me? Mister anti-retail? I told him to listen to them for a month so they were broke in and then I'd give them a listen, if he brought them over to my place. It is so funny that people's ears are different enough that some here have said they're pretty good for the price, and others (like me) said they are terrible. I wouldn't pay $10 for them.
He thought they were decent, until we compared to some of the budget designs I have around the house, DBP, Triune, DHT, BR-1 and the Azurites. Not really fair, of course, considering the $ difference. But even with the BR-1, you're getting a lot more than 3-4 times the SQ comparing the price of the BR's to the Insignias. I still find it interesting that some think they're OK, and others think "unlistenable". But I DO learn something from every post, and that's why I love this place! Keep it up!
