Default Vented or Sealed?

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone had input on which type of enclosure would work best for a sub that needs to play up to about 200hz. I have heard that sealed boxes tend to distort upper bass more than a vented enclosure would. Is this true? Thanks a ton!

If you have a woofer designed to give you good
sound quality in that region, either sealed or
ported can be made to work well.

How is a woofer indicated to be useful in this region? Q factors, size? Also, does tuning frequency effect the upper bass? I really appreciate the help!

Box type has the most effect on the bottom end of a sub's range, not the top. What woofer (exactly) are we talkin' about? Get WinISD (beta) at www.linearteam.org for box design info. The upper end of a sub's range (which 200 Hz would certainly be considered) if determined more by its responce curve(s). MY sub is only used in the 30-50 range.

The sub is the Tang Band 5-1/4" neodymium subwoofer. It is paired with small 2" drivers so it needs to get up a little.

Closed, 65 Hz, vented 32 - that's what I'm talkin' about!

You want to put this in a 1/2 cf box, with a 2"d x 11-1/2" long port. Line the box. Should sound awesome. Is it powered? Sub & 2 satellites?

Sweet, that does sound good. Yes it is powered. I have the Dayton 25 watter for the sub and a t-amp for the sats. Is there any way to shorten the port length? Thanks a lot for your help on this matter!
