Default 2.1 Computer setup

Provided Link: Keiga 2.1 media amp

I am considering building a system for my home PC. I don't watch movies on it and use it mostly for music (and sometimes video games.) I recently came across an amp on madisound, the Keiga Media amp http://www.madisound.com/kgamps.html. I would like to keep the design small due to my limited space.

I was thinking of using it with perhaps the TB 6.5" sub in .5 ft^3, and maybe Microbes for satellites.

The amp only has 50w available for sub and 50w for satellites, based on what little information I have been able to find.

Is this amp suitable as far as power output is concerned? Does anyone have any experience with this brand of amp?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Check out Chad Gray's "Olives" project at the link below. He used the Keiga Amp and liked it. I, too, am planning to use this amp on a computer sytem. It's a bit pricy for the watts, but it offers a couple of benefits IMO:

1.) There is no need to have a seperate receiver at the desk to run the sattelites. Makes for a clean little setup that can also be easily transported to the office or wherever.

2.) The crossover is low-pass to the the sub, and high pass to the sattelites, so you get some protection for your sattelites if you are using smallish drivers.

The only problem is that small sattelite speakers tend to be fairly inefficient, so the 25-watts (stereo) may be marginal to really drive some speaker designs. And remember, that is the 4-ohm rating. If you run an 8-ohm speaker, it will be less. But since we are talking about near-field listening (in this case) I'm hoping it will be okay. Jim Griffin sent me a write-up on a TB-871 1.5 way project that I'm going to try to adapt in this case.

You could actually go the T-amp / 70-watt PE plate amp route for less money. But you don't get some of the crossover ability with regard to the sattelites.

Also check out Roman's site (rjbaudio.com) and look at his "Cerebrus" subwoofer project. It uses the TB 6.5" sub. Others have built it and like it. I am using this set-up except with the Keiga Amp. I have the boxes built, but that's it so far. Hoping to get it all done in September.

I've had my eye on this amp with the same kind of plan in mind. Unfortunately, Madisound has not had it in stock for some time. It IS listed in stock at Speaker City...

i bought a klipsch promedia 4.1 amp from apexjr to accomplish the same task. i think it was around $50, but they are all gone now. look on ebay and buy a complete 2.1 setup and use it till you DIYers are done. then, scavenge the amp for your project and sell the klipsch sats/sub.

good:
control pod
35W/35W/120W

bad:
no control of sub xo frequency, ~120 hz
spring terminals
no heat sink
