Storage capacitor . . . keeps a voltage when powered down so that the memory circuit stays "alive". Even they will discharge over time, but for the typical power outage, or moving the receiver around, they should store enough energy to keep the circuit powered for a good while.

Easy repair, if you know were the capacitor is,
Also could just be a solder joint,, If it's new
it should be under warrantee, perhaps a free swap
    for another one.

You may have bigger problems than just a simple cap replacement. I too just got a 635 and remember reading that it uses non-volatile memory to store the settings. In the true sense of the word, this would mean no power is needed to store anything.

Harman kardon had similar problems with AVR 520. There is a sevice bulletin for the AVR 520 on resolving this issue. If it is in warranty, I would take it in for service. If it is out of service, there is a source for HK service manuals in electronic format. Email me and I will provide a link to the company that has the service manuals.
