More comments on Dayton DIY
In addition to "regular" attendees, we had two fathers with their sons, Trevor's dad and Dillon's (Dylan?) dad, one mother (Dillon's) and one wife (Chris M's). This was the first event for Trevor and his dad, Bill, and wouldn't you know it, Bill walks away with a free 15-inch RS subwoofer! Chris's wife (Connie, if I remember correctly) ends up with a pair of PE's veneered (cherry?) speaker cabinets. What did I get? Four of the new 1% Dayton poly caps. I was also fortunate to sell a pair of unused RS225s to Ward, then Ward was really fortunate to win a pair of RS52s to go with them! Now all Ward has to do is pick out an appropriate pair of tweeters. Jim Griffin and I both happened to bring along recordings of the same piece, Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. After lunch, when just Jim, Ed Lafontaine and I were playing around before the others returned, we played his CD on his big line arrays and I didn't like the way it sounded. But, when we played my CD (different label, orchestra, etc.) it sounded way better to my ears. I knew there couldn't be anything wrong with Jim's big arrays, and this just goes to prove, IMO, that once your equipment is above a certain level of sound quality, the primary determiner of how good it really sounds is the source.
