Re: DIY DC .. any updates?
We just broke up. We had about 20 geeks and 2 dogs, the latter with far more discriminating ears. We heard a whole lotta Insignias, including several active versions that Jan demonstrated. If he's lurking, I'll let him explain the software. I think the consensus was that the stock is a heck of a buy, but it can be improved. I won't give a full report of all the speakers we heard, but I thought the most interesting was a demo of two transmission lines that Dave Littel brought. One was a Zaph design using the SS 5" revelator and the Vifa XT25 tweet (I think), and the other an MTM using the Seas CA15 and the Vifa dx19 3/4" tweet. Dave did his math, and there were none of the usual TL resonance glitches in the midrange, and the bass was tight, clean, and amazingly extended. The CA15's were making some real bass sounds at 38 Hz. Thanks to all who came--we had a lot of newcomers, which is great. The volume-compensted A-B switch box that Neil Davis designed was a big help. Best of all, we didn't blow anything up this year.
