DEQ/DCX2496 Issues
I have a DEQ feeding a DCX. When in analog mode it randomly pops and clicks and is positevly corrolated with volume, however it can happen at almost any volume if there is a signal present.
When in digital it sounds much better and there are never any clicks. I am running from the unbalanced outs of my reciever to the DEQ to the DCX (they are connected digitally).
Anyone else ran into this problem? Any solutions? If not I am goign to start looking into passive solutions for these speakers as I need to run them through my reciever (volume control and Dolby Digital).
P.S. It is not my reciever distored. I turned up the gain on the DEQ and DCX and lowered it on the reciever (-30db on the reciever). Same effect at apparent high volume. The DEQ and DCX are well away from the clipping ranges. I know what that sounds like and it's not like this.

Check the RCA to XLR cables... Also I've heard of people having to reseat the cable connectors in side of the DCX. Mine has not had any noise problems so far. Also are you using pre amp outs on your receiver?

What is absolutely correlated with volume? The amount of clicks and pops or the level? If it's the level of the pops, you probably have some sort of equipment in your home that is sending spikes through the electrical lines causing interference with your audio system. My refrigerator, washing machine and deep freezer all do this to some degree. My electrical system is pretty bad, so it does not surprise me....

Not Normal
This is not normal behaviour. As well as considering the line noise that Aaron suggested, it might be a defect in the connection as the other poster suggested. Remove the splotch of hot melt glue off the connector inside on the main board and re-seat it(perhaps applying some contact cleaner). A defect that sometimes showed up in earlier DCX2496 units was related to the insert mount pin lengths on the back board(where the XLR jacks are mounted)contacting the chassis because they were too long(not trimmed correctly during production). But I never heard this reported as resulting in a popping sound. You could check to see if this is an issue. If this is still under warranty, call them and get it repaired and/or exchanged.

Eggs frying sound ?
DCX has a known problem with some units where
all of a sudden you get backround noise, pops,
eggs frying sound, etc.
I tried all the methods to fix it, reseating
the internal ribbon cables, etc.
I finally found the root cause, it was a ribbon
cable to ribbon cable connector intermittent
connection. To diagnose this, you open the DCX
and while playing music at low level, press on
the ribbon cables and connectors and see if you
can stop the noise or modulate the noise. If so,
then that is the problem.
To fix this, I cut the ribbon cable close to the
ribbon cable connector, remove the connector
and recrimped the connector back on the freshly
cut side. I haven't seen a problem since.
If this isn't the problem, then I'd check the
wiring from RCA to XLR as it may be wrong.
I'd wiggle the input cables to see if the noise
goes away.

Line Issues
The pops are all of the same volume, what changes is the frequency not the amplitude of the pops. I have tried isolating the line noise by putting it on a monster power thing (I know it does nothing, but I got it cheap), and I've tried it on my parents power system which is much cleaner than my apartments.

Re: DEQ/DCX2496 Issues
Not a frying sound, it is a loud popping noise that goes away when you go to lower volumes. It is MUCH more likey at higher volume (-12db or so) however has been known to happen at lower volumes.

I'd look at signal wiring, perhaps use a meter
and ohm out the RCA to XLR cable to see if it's
correct {even if the cables are store bought).
Signal processor output, is it XLR to RCA, XLR
to XLR? etc.
You can generate some nasty sounds if the
XLR wiring isn't correct when converting to and
from RCA.
