Default TANG BAND W4-654S on an Open baffle

    Provided Link: W4-654S

How low do you think the TB W4 (PE # - 264-816) would go on an open baffle?

I’m looking to get to 200hz before passing it off to the Dayton Classic 8” for the low end. Do you think I could get away with an open baffle 6.5” wide? I would use the Dayton Neo crossed at 3500hz for the high end.

    Thanks
    -Brian

btw, I used PCD 5.10 and the sample response curves to work-up a crossover for these three drivers. It looks pretty decent, I made sure to incorporate BSC this time.

I'd think you'd want a driver with a Q in the range of .50 to 1.00. You look like you've already picked the highest Q 4" in the TB line. At .48, I'd give it a shot.

I suppose it's worth a shot, I can always toss it in a sealed box if it doesn’t work. Should I be concerned that distance between the TB and the Dayton 8 is close to 3 feet? I wanted the mid and tweeter at ear level.

    Thanks for the response.

    1125 fps (sos) / 3' = 375 Hz.

Cross to the 8" at 375 Hz or below and you should be OK. You know, the 8" DVC will go lower, in a smaller box, and with more sensitivity, Xmax, and power handling than the D 8 (even though I LOVE the D 8)?

Dividing the speed of sound by the distance between the drivers= Crossover fequency? Help me out here. What effect is this addressing and what is its significance?

Well, it's more like the other way around.

The distance between the drivers c-c, when divided into the sos (approx 13,500 ips) gives you the max. recommended crossover freq. that you should consider.

    So, in an 8" 2-way (figure a tweeter dia. of 4") c-c = 6".
13500/6 = 2250, so it's not recommendede to cross these any higher than 2.2 kHz.

I THINK that the main issue here is trying to avoid lobing issues which can ruin imaging.
