speaker specs and crossovers
I have been trying to find the TS parameters for some older Infinity drivers that I aquired and so far have had no luck. They are all from a set of RS III B's aquired for free from a yard sale. All the drivers are perfect. I have already built new cabinets and changed to Vifa tweeters. I used the emits in another set of speakers. Now I want to build new crossovers of my own design and need the parameters. Infinity is uninterested in helping so I am stuck. Other than just guessing and starting from scratch. I have lots of software, computers and a nice measurement mic as well as SPL meter. I need info on how to properly measure the speakers to get the parameters. I have been out of work due to an auto accident and dont have a ton of money to spend on more equipment. I sell a custom set of speakers here and there to help supplement the household income. So I need to figure out how to do this on my own if possible. But have never built a crossover for a set of speakers that I did not have at least some of the parameters. Basically its 2 10's in series with a dome mid and a Vifa PL27TG-35-06. I have buckets of caps and inductors and resistors. A full woodshop and all tools and knowlege needed except the driver parameters. The woofers are 10 inch, curvilinear poly cones, midrange is infinity dome tweeter original to the rs III b. Having listened to these drivers and having owned a set of RSIII b's I know they have much more potential. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. They sound pretty good as they are but the crossover components are aged and not of the best quality. I have used crossovers built for other 3 way setups and they also are ok but by no means correct for the setup intended. Thanks for any help in finding this info or a way to measure the drivers to determine the specs myself. I have read about different measuring setups but have never used one. My fault for always relying on the factory to supply me with that info. The more I build the more accuraccy I strive for. I have done 30 or so sets of speakers ranging from 200 buck up to 3000 bucks. All turned out very well. but I had the info needed to build the crossovers correctly.Again thanks in advance for any ideas.

Do you have some measurement-specific software, like Soundeasy, LspCad, Speaker Workshop, etc.? If so, you might not need the parameters. A Woofer Tester 2 would be able to measure and get the specs you'll need. With the appropriate design software, you'll get all the info you need to get the XO to the "right" place...for the enclosure all you need is Qtc, Fb, and Vas. You might find some helpful stuff over at:

I have Xover pro and Bass box, Speaker workshop never used it) Sound Easy. and many others from the FRD consortium. Thanks for the info, I almost bought the woofer tester II But Parts Express quit offering it so I thought maybe there was a reason and I was doing a little research. I found it for sale at another website but was not familiar with them so I didnt purchase it. Thanks Again,

With the ones you mentioned (with the exception of XO Pro) you'll be able to do your own measurements to help with getting the right alignment for the XO. Xo Pro doesn't use any measurement files, so the results won't be ideal. I've had quite a few XO's done up using XO Pro, and I've never been pleased with the sound quality. The XO's done with measurement software have been much more successful AFA great sound quality. Some of the guys here use those programs, so if you need some help, I'm sure they'd be happy to assist. Also, there are some great tutorials on Speaker Workshop over at audiodiycentral.com
