Re: guitar to computer
Does you computer have a mic input? If so, you could use your regular guitar cable with a 1/2 to 1/4in. adapter on the end that plugs into the computer.

depends on the sound card you are using. Most have a 1/8" mini plug. You can get an adapter for mono or stereo if you want the sound out of both speakers. I use the Sound Blaster XFi Platinum with 5 1/2 inch header unit, it has mic and auxillary inputs that are the same as a standard 1/4 inch guitar plug. And also has lots of software for effects, compressor, flanger, envelope follower, voice morping etc, If I knew how to post a pic on here I would show it to you. My email is jeffhyder@hotm ail.com if you want a pic email me and I will email you the pic.

High enough output?
You can use an adaptor and go right into the mic or line in of the sound card. But if the guitar output isn't high enough, and I don't think it is, you will need a mixer that accepts a 1/4" jack and outputs a line level signal, or a separate guitar pre-amp. You should get one anyway.

Unless you have an unusual sound card, it will work fine with just an adapter plugged into the sound card aux input, I have played my guitars through every computer I have ever owned with just a good sound card and an adapter. You need 1/4 inch mono (standard guitar plug) to mono or stereo 1/8 inch mini plug. Make sure you unmute the aux input before you give up. some of the input selections are muted by default to prevent feedback. A preamp would be a good option but is not needed just to play the guitar into the computer and have the sound come out your speakers.
