Default Any recommended RS180 MT projects?

Right now I've got a coupla Dayton ribbons sitting on the shelf - anyone do anything with those?

Basically looking for a fairly simple/inexpensive crossover, and thinking bedroom speaks... Sealed would probably be preferred to ported...

Pete designed the one i'm using. Rs180 with the seas 27tbfc/g. I'll have mine done within the month. Would you like the schematic?

Am I gonna freak out when I see the crossover? Thus far the heaviest thing I've hacked together was second order...

...the bugger _is_ kinda cool looking...

Knowing Pete, the crossover's gonna hurt my brain (bogie not electrical engineer, unless you count the time in the dorm when I developed the "two nails and the cut off cord hotdog cooker"), but I gotta learn some time...

    Hi Bogie,

Here's what you're looking for. Jon Marsh's Modula M/T design is very polished and professional. The design took 1st place in the budget class at Iowa last fall against heavy competition. It's very, very nice.

The crossover is more complicated than some but it's not hard if you take your time. Lot's of support if you do have any issues too.

No, it ain't bad. If you want to scare yourself into building it go look at the Modula MT xo at HTguide.com.

Here's the page Pete sent me.

    Default I agree with Jim.

The Modulas were very well received. They were never harsh and were very controlled on almost all music. The only thing I missed on them was a little top end. But years of car audio will do that to ya!

Fear not! It's a lot simpler than other offerings.

However, the Dayton planar will not work in a 7" two-way. Terrible distortion below 4KHz.

No original ideas here! I put new surrounds on the ESS woofers and passives. They are in a stuffed 2.5 cubic enclosure and are powered by a PE 250 sub amp with no bass boost. If these were mine to keep, these would be replaced with better woofer. The RS-180 in a Modula MT box on it's back. I retained the stock Modula low pass, baffle width & box volume. The tweeter is 3rd order at approx 1800hz and is padded excessively. I didn't bring it to the Iowa event because I wasn't happy with the driver integration. There is a bump in the midrange because of the low end rolloff of the AMT. I need to spend more time with lspcad so I can remove the bump.

    Hi Paul,

Very cool projects! I didn't realize you were that involved in DIY. We should get together sometime. There is a small but growing list of DIY guys in the area now.

    (2) Pair of Lynn Olsen ME-2s, (we got a good deal on a box of P13-WH a guy had sitting around)
    (6) GR-AV1s
    (6) Shamrock Audio Se-1s.
    (4) Silver Flute/Vifa MTs.
    (2) RS-180s and ESS AMT-1s

And I thought I had the speaker building addiction bad. :-) I hope you can bring something to the Iowa DIY event next year. The more speakers the more fun it is. Shoot me an email sometime if you like. Jay is starting to get into wood working a bit too. He works for Liberty Hardwoods.

Are you looking for RS180 or Dayton Ribbon projects?
