OT: sorta... i really ****** off my neighbor
Long story short, my neighbor smokes like nobodys buisness. Which wouldn't be a problem if we didn't live in a duplex. Thismorning my whole apt. smelled like an ash tray, so i decided to retaliate
I decided that i wanted to listen to a couple of tunes while i got ready for work. Which by the way my 12" boston G2 on the dayton 240W plate amp corner loads into the adjacent room like you wouldn't belive... hahaah.
Anyway, so i riped on that and while i got out of the shower i hear a knock at the door, so i answer the door in nothing but a towel. My neighbor was so ****** off, he was yeling at me to turn it down becasue they where still sleeping. I suggested that when he quits smoking i will turn down my music... oh this is great!!
I'm going to do it again tomarrow.

You're NUTZ
Clearly you never smoked. You're nutz!!
Your neighbor has an addictive habit that he'd like to cut back on but can't, and you attack him with loud music.
If you end up seriously injured, whose fault will it be? Which one of you is the more seriously disturbed?

That's the neighbour's problem, why should j be inflicted by it ??

Mad, absolutely mad, I've been mad all my life
Pink Floyd . I can comment that it's better to get along with your neighbors if you can since you may be living next to them for decades.

What are you going to tell the cops?
One can certainly empathize with your situation. However, you're breaking the law, your neighbor isn't.
If he calls the cops you can be ticketed.

Re: OT: sorta... i really ****** off my neighbor
More that once I have stopped next to a car and ask the driver what he thinks might happen if the ash from a cigarette got caught in a less friendly motor bike rider's eye. !
Its just an indication of the general lack of consideration for other that seems to be part of MOST smoking persons' character.

Re: OT: sorta... i really ****** off my neighbor
Health nazis should be shot. Every smoker pays into all the socialized benefit systems and does not live to collect. I say smoking should be mandatory for people who will suck the system dry so they die too young to collect.
no one thinks either of the ills a black market culture on cigarettes will cause either. I would rather have people legally smoke than have a bunch of federal cigarette agents abusing people and their rights. Just look at our current FAILED drug war. All we have done is to put more profit motive into the market, thus making it more dangerous for all. It would be sheer lunacy to do the same with tobacco.
The key to living a good life is the right to be left alone by neighbors and the government.

I really hate breathing stinking cigarette and cigar tainted air. Sorta like being stuck behind an out of tune diesel vehicle.
And you are right, neighbours should leave the air you are breathing unpolluted.

Re: OT: sorta... i really ****** off my neighbor
how about a retalitory strike with a overly flowery room deoderizer sent into his air vent or through a shared outlet cover? we did that in college because the outlets between rooms were on the same spot on each side of the wall.
maybe a call to the landlord, if your right to peaceful enjoyment is compromised by your neighbors smoking pollution, this is the place to start.

HERE IS THE DEAL!
I have talked to my land lady, multiple times, she bought us an air purifier. Great! it helps some and i am really greatfull for that, but when i put on my clothes in the morning and it smells like his ash try... to bad, 40Hz tone here we come.
Not to mention i am a renter, i am outer here anyway, what do i care about keeping this guy happy. He doesn't work, his son that lives there also doesn't work, they just smoke all day long.
As far as the cops... what are they gonna do? I don't play it at night because the wife won't let me. So this instance was at 8:30 AM Besides it his word against mine, maybe a slap on the hand... wooppdeedoo.

Re: HERE IS THE DEAL!
If your wife wont let you play the stereo when you want, it seems you need to grow a set rather than worry about cigarette smoke. Sounds like you are beyond whipped.

Hi Andy,
I don't mean this to sound callus or uncaring about your possible eye injury...BUT...you could just as easily be a more responsible motorcycle rider and wear goggles or a face-shielded helmet. It is highly likely that you could also get hit in the eye as you are riding by a flying bug...doing essentially the same thing as the ash would....making you temporarily blind and not in full control of your motor vehicle....and if in that state of "not in full control" you happen to smash into someone else, let's say a pedestrian walking along the roadside, then who would be the one showing the "general lack of consideration"? Let's be honest, here....wearing some sort of eye protection is considered the responsible and concerned thing for any mototcyclist to do....the fact that you don't have adequate eye protection indicates that you, too, show a general lack of consideration for others. Sorry, I don't say this to incite you to ire, or to be argumentative, but you have to admit that the point is valid. As a motorcyclist, you have a responsibility to show a general concern for other's safety as well as your own...it is part of every motorist's responsibility.
I know, Iknow...it sounds sorta like someone's mother harping on you....sorry.
Other than that, I can wholeheartedly sympathize with you getting ash in your eye riding....anything in the eye while driving is a bad deal all around.

You gotta be kidding..."your wife won't let you" play your stereo at night? So....you are saying that your wife has you completely "whipped" at home, so to feel more like the "macho man" you gotta go out and **** your neighbor off? Man, you have serious issues. Grow a set of *****....you should be able to play the stereo at anytime....if you are pulling your own weight in the partnership of marriage, you have the same and equal right to enjoyment as she does. Just the same as your neighbor has the right to smoke inside his abode if he wants to....without the neighbor (you) hassling him about it. We all have rights. But no ones rights supercede another's simply because you don't have the guts to talk to him and try to work it out peacefully.
But since you plan to move, that's for the best anyway. I just hope you dont treat your next neighbor in the same manner....like someone said above.....that neighbor may be your neighbor for a long, long time. Better they should be a good neighbor than a bad one. Bad ones stand by and watch while your house gets burglarized...and never call the cops on your behalf.....good ones call the cops and try their best to drive the perpetrator off. Bad neighbors knitpick and complain about your shortcomings (not a good yard maintainer, noisy power tools going all day, etc)....good neighbors overlook your shortcomings (and sometimes even lend a hand with things) like they hope you would overlook theirs and lend a hand to them.

Maybe you should go for 20Hz instead
Since 40Hz is still pretty audible, and subject to noise complaints maybe you should go for something lower and less audible, but more tactile, like 20Hz. This way he can't call the police about noise, because it will be his own pictures rattling on the walls. You might get some other emergency personnel though interested in reports of an isolated earthquake...

Re: OT: sorta... i really ****** off my neighbor
Yeah, sorry.. just one of those things that annoys me a bit when I'm on the bike. The other one is cars in front with badly adjusted wiper sprays :-)
I only wear open face around town, never on longer rides and I wear glasses, anyway, got some nice old fashioned ones with big dark lenses for use when on the bike or in the sun.... cool man !! ;-))

I'd opt for 16Hz :o) *NM*

And I hate disco music Andy. Should I sue to have it outlawed because it offends my dainty sensibilities?

Quit driving your car and fouling my air please.
This anti-smoking lunacy has to stop.

Fight Fire With Fire - Kudos
I also have the worse neighboors in the world.
My hat's off to your courage and resourcefulness.
