    Default Array Qs, 901's bad?

Just finished reading all the array postings. I've never done one, but I always thought the Bose 901's looked cool. Is the square or conventional array to difficult to build for a diy compared to the line array? Are there any diy designs fora conventional array if I want to mimic the look of a 901?

The 901 is not an array and has none of the properties and advantages a true line array has. The 901 design also relies heavily on EQ(over 20db boost at 60hz and 12khz) to achieve something that resembles flat response. It's claim to fame is 3 dimensional sound, because 8 of the 9 drivers are pointed at the back walls, no at the listener. Generally anything Bose is shot down around here for good reason. While the designs are unique and stylish, the performance is just not there.

Not too difficult...some of the gents here have done some really nice ones! Check out

Lots of great information out there, from inexpensive to "how much do you have?"...if you make it look like the 901, it won't really be an array. I believe marlboro, bogie and Robert Cottiers have something, either already built or in the process. I'm sure there are others here who would gladly point you in the right direction. Good luck!
