    Default In-Walls for Dad...

So dad's turning 65 in a month and is going to buy a 50" plasma for the "celebration." It's going to be mounted high on the wall in his bedroom where he can watch it from the bed and we've been talking about speakers to go with it. There's not any room for floorstanding speakers and since the TV will be up that high (top of tv at 8' celing) I'm not sure what the best option is.

What do you guys think about the PE in-walls? He's not that concerned about quality because he can't hear that well due to a lifetime of hunting without earplugs, but I do want something that is above average intelligibility. Surround is not needed, stereo is fine.

Also... anyone have a recommendation on a decent buget friendly stereo receiver?

    Thanks!
    Wes

Default Well you can DIY some in-walls now

Thanks to PE offering up blank-baffle in wall kits. I've been looking at them myself since I learned they were available. Thing is that with no need for baffle step compensation it would take a new crossover design for the massive amount of existing DIY designs that aren't done with in-wall use in mind. Just an idea for ya here but you might also consider the PE in-walls as well. I've not heard them yet but I've given them some thought for my mom's place.

    In wall kits:

PE's ready to install units (at the top of the listing):

Let me suggest that you make a two way using the RS52 and the RS180-4. Knowing what a typical 65 year old's hearing is like, that last octave is not needed and the intelligibility of a two-way crossed at 800Hz, 2nd order, should be quite good.
