DAYTON 8" or 10"quattro
I am building another one. For another car.As the first project turned out fine.
A sealed box design , in an SUV. I have room for 10" one.
I used the 8" one previously , and was really happy with it.Naturally fitting the 8" one would be easier , and cheaper.
Any real benefits for going to the 10" one ?
Is it worth the extra money ?
Or is the 8" quattro a better choice ?
Thanks !

There is a saying, "No replacment for displament". This means that if your end goal is low end extention then your gonna need a big woofer. There may be a small audible DB difrance between the 8" and the 10" but I can tell you that the 10" will play lower than the 8"...
With that said, what are your goals, Fill, Volume, Low end extention?
I will also say that since this is for a car audio application you can use cabin gain to your advantage here... If you properly acount for cabin gain an 8" should go plenty low enough for youand should give you a good amount of bass...

Provided Link: 8" Assassin
I believe for the money, thier are better drivers out there for the money than the quatro's. Granted they are hard to beat. I can recommend the 8" Ascendant Audio Assassin sub. I used before in a persons pickup as a compact sub. With 150wrms it played very loud and sounded very good.

I would say that one 10 is minimum for an SUV.
Go with the 10, it's always good to have headroom.

P.S. Here's the 10" you want!!!

Not meaning to step on anyone's toes here but the only thing any name brand car stereo subwoofer has going for them is their bling-factor.
Price-to-Performance-wise, you can pretty much always do better for less money and sometimes even with less wattage overall using less known/popular brands such as Dayton, Ascendant, Adire, Mach5, etc.

Well actually the Q8 plays pretty much as low as the Q10 and only loses a dB or so to it's bigger brother on the bottom end. Overall, for the enclosure size and price, the Q8 is the choice for me. I have built several of them in several different configs and the Q8 has received nothing but kudos each time. Considering the price/size/performance of the Q10, I think there is better options out there if a 10"er is a must for you for whatever reason.

While the AAA8 may have more excursion and power handling, the Q8 is substantially more sens. In the same box sealed box, their response curve will be similar but you will need somewhere in the ballpark of triple the power to get the same level of output with the AAA8. The little Q8 is quite an impressive driver to play with, one that never ceases to amaze me. I suppose come tax time I am going to have to get me an AAA8 to play with but I can tell you from experience so far that watt-for-watt, dollar-for-dollar the Q8 is the one for me so far.
