    Default Compression Banana Plugs

    Provided Link: http://www.icmcorp.net/Audio_compres...spb_rgspu.html

Any of you familiar with these compression fittings for speaker cables? Recommendations for or agains? "Seems to me" it would be an improvement over bare wire, and I already have the necessary tooling. Thanks.

I dont see how it could be an improvement over bare wire.

    situation 1 (bare wire):

the bare wire gets clamped down upon by a gold plated binding post or something similar in nature

    Situation 2 (terminated banana plug):

bare wire connects to gold plated banana plug then the banana plug connects to binding post

Either way your having copper connect to gold plating at one point or another.

If anything I think you would lose contact area to the binding post by using banana plugs because binding posts can clamp down pretty hard on bare braided copper wire.

    Just some of my thoughts.

However I havent noticed an audible difference (from bare wire) when I switched to using banana plugs just for the convenience of them and there ease of use when switching from system to system.

save your money if your not constantly changing wires around and such.

    Default Re: Conversely...

My Haflers won't accept big wire unless I wrap it around the binding post - ergo banannas or spades.

That outfit has some obnoxious sounding music on their site, so I'd probably go to Speakerrepair.com for my locking banannas... That's Orange County, and they're cool.

    Default Why not....

why dont you take the bared part of wire and clip out enough strands of wire (then twist it) so that it can fit into the binding posts?

I did this when I was making my 10/3 power cords, the terminator could only really accept down to 12 gauge.
