Thread: MDF Sealer

    Default MDF Sealer

What is a good way to seal MDF before the primer coat? I thought of using the two part exoxy sealer but can't find it local and it cost a bit. Thanks for any suggestions !

A widely used method is to use ordinary wood glue mixed 50/50 with water. Apply, let dry, sand if needed.

I use thinned body filler,it spreads on very smooth, fills larger voids and seams, hardens fast, sands very easy and very smooth. It is also pretty economical,a quart of body filler cost around $6 or $7 depending on the brand and a quart of body filler thinner(Plastik Honey) is around $10 and will do a lot of speakers. You can also buy a tube of single stage filler but it seams to crumble if not applied and spread very fast. You can get it at auto paint stores and parts stores. A.H.

I use BIN primer sealer (which is used for covering smoke damage after a fire). It worked well for me. It dries quickly, but smells pretty strong for half an hour..

Me too. Works nicely. Do a light sanding after and you'll be able to see any blemishes that may have been previously hidden too. It saves time and works well.
