Dayton Ceiling Speakers
How is the sound quality of the Dayton 8" ceiling speakers and in-wall speakers. Compared to some of the main brands,ie.Speakercraft,Polk,etc.
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Dayton Ceiling Speakers
I have four of the Dayton 6-1/2" in walls. (Not the contractor series ... the better ones that are now discontinued for the new Kevlar series.) I would say they compare pretty well with the Polk's I was looking at prior to buying the Dayton's. These aren't hi-fi, but they sound pretty good and cost less than the others you mentioned. I would guess the ceiling style ones are much the same.

Re: Dayton Ceiling Speakers
I'm also considering their in-ceiling speakers. I'm looking at the 6.5" 2-way speakers that are enclosed and the cut-out for the is a bit under 10".
I've owned Dayton in-wall speakers before. I owned the 3-ways with the 8" woofers. They had lots of bass - in fact, a bit too much bass. Instead, I opted for some NXGs that had 6.5" woofers. However, the quality of the Daytons were nice, which is why I'm considering them again. I'm not looking for audiophile sound, but rather speakers that will be used for ambient music - but, I do want good sound quality.

Re: Dayton Ceiling Speakers
I have the 8" kevlar in-wall 3-ways in my dining room, and the 6 1/2" 2-channel in a bathroom. Both sound very nice for the price. The Kevlar 3 ways are as good as other brands of in-walls I have heard. Not great, but plenty good for background/party music.

I replaced some in-wall Polks at a friends place with some similar Daytons (6.5" TM's), and for half the price of the Polk units, even his wife (who'd be happy with a boom-box) noticed how much better they sound. I think they are cleaner and smoother through the mids and high-end, not as harsh as the Polks. Bass was about the same, with a bit more definition from the Daytons. Not the ultimate in imaging, but a decent soundstage for an in-wall. I'm sure the 8" ones are equal in quality to the 6.5", but I haven't heard the 8" 3-way.
