Something for the Big Woofer Set
Provided Link: http://www.bcspeakers.com/download/p...DF/21NW160.pdf
I surfed onto the B&C website and found a 21.5" woofer, 6"VC, 15mm Xmax driver they have planned for release this month. No idea how much it'll cost or how it'll sound, but I thought it would be enjoyable to the "big & tall overkill set" lol.

If the specs are accurate, it looks good for a net volume of 4 cu.ft. vented. Tuned to 31hz, the F3 will be about 50hz, but with average room reinforcement, f3 extends to 31hz. With 1000 watts input, the driver will do 127dB output @ 1 meter. Whoa! Xmax of 16mm doesn't get reached until the 1000 watts range, and that only 20hz and lower...where the speaker would be down in output by 18dB. Looks good for a 400-500hz cross. You will definitely need a large horn with high efficiency or a large midrange cone to work with this one.
4-way with 10" midrange, 5" upper midrange,and 1" tweeter? Anyone?

Anything with an Fs above 25Hz ain't no sub!!!

Pro touring (small, vented, EQ'ed) or fixed install (horn loaded) sub. Wouldn't be my first choice for an overkill home system. B&C makes some nice ~$300 18's that would be better for that application.

Or, as you have many, the Kappa Pro 15LF-2

NOT a good subwoofer driver. Too high Fs. Sd is only 1680 cm^3 while an 18" driver has an Sd of around 1100 cm^3. 16mm Xmax isn't bad but still, this is really for PRO sound where frequencies below 40 Hz don't matter.
For a home sub application, I would go with tried and true drivers from Adire, TC Sounds or even the Dayton Titanic subs. YOu might need two or three but you will definitely get more low frequency output (at 20Hz). Your -18dB @ 20Hz spec means that there is practically no output in the lowest octave.
If you don't care about 20Hz-40Hz and think that a huge driver is cool, then go for it!

It's for Pro Sound, Pete. The requirements are quite a bit different than a sub for home use. Of course, I am pretty sure you know this already ;- )

It's still just a woofer ;-D *NM*

Not "many" - only two 2x15 3-way cabs with them. My horn loaders use 12's so I have more of those. Need to pick up 4 more 15's while they're on free ship this month. I'll either use those or the DefTech 18's in the 4 way. Either way, it will be a year long project. The 18's are just collecting dust and need to be used in something but the 15's have their advantages.

Re: Yes, it is just a woofer
They call it Sub because they gave it a lot of Xmax for a Pro Sound driver. Ever look at how much most of these high sensitivity drivers give you? I think the home HiFi crowd is even pushing high excursion woofers into the pro world.

The technology deveolped for high excursion subs has pushed the direction of pro sound equipment. Big boxes were the norm, but not so much anymore - if the budget is large. Now it's smaller boxes and enough power to light up a small town. This driver will work in a 4 or 5 cubic foot box. The old Aura 1808 would do that - and it was similar in principle. Probably intended to be used in an easily stackable/transportable "wall of woofers" 20 feet square driven by a quarter million watts.

Thaint no replacement for displacement . . . *NM*
