OT: But sorta speaker related... *PIC*

Before Andrew came over last night, we had just finished the texture/knockdown. Let it dry overnight. Woke up this morning and primed it. Painted the ceiling and then the walls. Need to get some hardware for the tub/shower, cut the baseboards, and replace the commode and install a new pedastal sink. Then I need to wipe down and put a fresh coat of clear on the cabinet. Should be done tomorrow if I'm lucky. One room down almost.
For the OT part. The ceiling has those awful popcorn acoustic treatment. Does anyone really know if that stuff does any good? It's a pain to paint especially when you're looking up. That's a hard position to hold the head in for a very long time. Walls were quick. So does that popcorn do anything? If not, when I finally settle down, I'm going to texture the ceiling too. Easier to paint and looks better IMHO.

I've actually used it for that reason before on small two ways. No way 120lbs of MDF is going up that high thouhgh

Be careful of that popcorn ceiling treatment, Paul. If it's what I think it is, it could be asbestos. Be very careful removing it (seek info before proceeding) or have it done professionally. It might not be a problem to just leave it, but I don't know about that.

I left it up and painted it with ceiling paint . They put that stuff throughout the whole house including the garage. It's a pain painting because the little pieces fall down.

It's a Southern thing.
For painting, use a heavier nap roller and keep it as wet as you can without it dripping like crazy. You may need to second coat it later, but you only want to roll over it once the first time to keep from knocking it loose. It gets worse when you dampen it. If you have to second coat it, the popcorn will be stable now and the pain will go easy.
The easiest way to rid yourself of the stuff is to scrape it off with a heavy scraper and add a new piece of sheetrock right on top. It's easier than it sounds. The scraping is a mess but isn't hard to do. Most importantly it gets you a nice new flat ceiling. If you want new knockdown instead, after scraping, hit it with the drywall sander briefly and put the knockdown right on top.

On the West Coast, you almost can't sell a house with those cielings. Too retro. The problem with painting them is that then it is difficult to scrape. If you insist on painting them, use a sprayer. The issue then becomes the overspray shadow on the walls. So, like with washing a car, start at the top first and work your way down.

Yup that's what I did and it worked out great and fast. Of course I had paint all over me but hey ik was exercise and I need that. I've learned a lot about household repairs over the 12 years I've been here. Cabinetry is my favorite though. I can do fencing pretty darn quick IMHO. Plumbing is so so. I need a torch and plumbers solder. A mainstay of a plumber. So it's going, slowly ...
