    Default Flush mount depths

    hello

how deep do the flush mount cuts need to be for the DAYTON RS180S-8 and DAYTON RS28AS-4?? i know the diameters of the flush mount cut and the through hole, just not the depth the router cut needs to be.

    thanks

You should measure it before you cut. I think it's about 3"/16.

Whenever I've measured it and went to that depth I've always had to do some work with sandpaper to get them to fit flush.

Last weekend I went a bit deeper when cutting for some Modula MT baffles and they fit like a charm. I think that I went 1/4" deep on the RS180S and 3/16" on the RS28A.

The key for me was to take the time to do them on a piece of scrap first. I will check when I get home tonite to see if I still have my notes.

super, if you have the drivers, measure the thickness of the flange. Are you planning on using some form of sealant, like weather stripping tape or some kind of caulk? I've been using the PE foam weather stripping tape for a while and making the depth of the mortise an extra 1/32". I've been getting a perfect flush fit every time. 1/16" is a bit too much...the tape does compress a bit. Or just go to the hardware store for Frost King (I think that's the brand). 3/8" wide works for tweeters and the 1/2" width for woofers/mids. Make sure it's not too soft. You want some that's fairly firm. It's cheap, so you could try different densities to see what works best.

the reason im asking if somone has the numbers is because i dont have the drivers yet and i need to finish the boxes before the end of the week as i lose my access to the tools. (moving). so if you have numbers that would be sweet thanks.

My DAYTON RS180S-8's measure .205 at the thickest point.
    No tweets, sorry.

With my calipers the RS28A was 1/8" thick at the flange(not counting the gasket). I set my router for 3/16" for the RS28A and 1/4" for the RS180S. The drivers fit well in my test fittings.

    Your mileage may vary...

    Yeah.
1/4" sounds about right for the actual cut depth. Leaves a little room for gasket and excess paint/finish...

    Default 7"/32

That's kind of like finishing the gutters of a house, even while you're still waiting for the roof to be put on.

But I think the exact number would be 7"/32.
