    Default Help??

Subs: #292-132, #267-086, #290-730, #293-483, #297-284. Out of these choices which is the best for a bandpass enclosure? I think the Pyle 267-086 will fit my amp and needs the best. But is bandpass the best way to go. I already have both types of boxes. what is the best overall out of these, and why. I am full of questions because I'm looking for the "real booming bass". thanks Robert

Bandpass systems do nothing for good drivers and hide the flaws of bad ones to a degree. If you want "BOOM", a bandpass can surely do that, but if you also want musicality in a car environment a sealed box is best. Of all the drivers you listed, only the Lanzar and Pioneer listed Xmax, which ought to tell you something. I'd take either of those over any of the others. It's not just power handling you have to worry about, its excursion capability, and I'd bet the Lanzar and Pioneer both have quite a bit more linear travel than any of the others.

All of them have fairly high Qts numbers. I ran the Pioneer numbers through WinISD. 3 cubic foot sealed section with a 2 cubic foot vented front section, 4" vent 5" long. Lower F3 ~ 28Hz. Upper F3 ~ 80Hz. Above 35Hz, they can take full power. Below that, they'll reach Xmax with 70W at 26Hz. You'll get 110dB with 150W input. That may be the best way to use that woofer.

Then you want a sealed or vented bandpass box which, if tuned appropriately can give a huge peak in sensitivity in the center of their response. They seem quite tricky to design just right though.

Preferred for Hi-Fi is a higher quality driver in a sealed or vented box. Makes for an easier to control flat response and reasonable sensitivity.
