The tube showed up just fine.
Was installed.
Warmed up.
And it rocks.
GAIN!!!!!
dials are at about 8:45ish, maybe 1/4 of the way up. With the old tube, had 'em at about 3/4 of the way...
Aric's little tube preamp gizmo rawks. Buy one.

Re: Very cool Aric
Creativity, nice wood enclosure...very schwank. When are gonna offer it up as a kit? Or do you have plans and schematics that you will offer?

Call it ' The Sherman'
Very cool. It reminds me of the tanks in the Atari 2600 game 'Combat', which made me think of the Sherman tank. If you're looking for a name that is...

Thank you very much for the kind words. I think it sounds very, very good for the simplicity of the design. I'm not sure about the kit, would you think a boxless kit would be something you'd want, or an unfinished box? Also, most of the parts are available here, so I'm not sure I could make any money offering it as a kit. I'm basically only making some ching on the assembly and the wooden enclosure.
Best regards, Aric

I think I would like a boxless kit. I have a Jolida 302a Tube amp, but I think it would fun to have a preamp that you could tinker around with. I would probably amuse myself for hours using it as a pre-amp with my Musical Fidelity and then comparing it to the Jolida 302a and then to the MF w/ out the tube pre-amp. You know how it is...compare, compare...play, play, play. Send me an email with your thoughts...and costs.

Re: GAIN!!!!!!
Aw MAN! I was gonna lay off buying gear for a while and now this. A handmade tube pre for less than an arm & a leg. I gotta go sell off some stuff now...
