Now why can't they make a low-Q version of this? *PIC*

Provided Link: Me want
I really like how this woofer looks. Really really. But please, HiVi, make a version with a Qts that is more home audio friendly. Pretty please? And the 12" is just as slick too.. with an even higher Qts! You're going the wrong way guys!

George Short's MAPD alignment might be worth a try with that.

If I followed things correctly, the woofer is in a chamber that is Vas/3:
26.3/3 = 8.77 l
And then through a Scan Speak Variovent to the second chamber which is equal to the driver's Vas which is, duh, 26.3 l. Add the two together and whammo, we get right around 35 l which is exactly the volume of the sealed box HiVi recommends for this 10 incher. Neato if I'm right. That size of box is not that big at all in my book so I'm not so scared of it.
Now comes the next big hurdle: where the heck do I get a couple of them???? Time to fire off another e-mail to them and see what they say.

The Qts might be a "hair" high, depending on how you want to split them. The ideal Qts is about .6

You know what would be nice?

If the thing had the pole piece inserts like the Infinity subs. That would be nice. I did fire off an e-mail to HiVi asking if I can get the woofer on this side of the pond. Again, nice if I can.

I hear you! I'd like to see more of a variety with that addition.

The response plots limit that driver to the bottom of a 3-way.

Yup!

If I can even get a pair of them, I would like to put them in a three way using an F5 (most likely) for mids and a tweeter yet to be determined. The more I listen to my F6s the more I really like the way they sound. It's all conceptual and wishful thinking until I hear back from HiVi about availability. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get them and the price isn't a deal breaker.

F12: I had the pleasure of playing with a pair, and though they ended up in a car installation (abbasolutely beautiful!), they were very efficient and smooth, and could play up to over 200Hz in the sub box no problem. Well, other than Bosealocalization to the rear of the hatchback. Do a vented F12, it'd be gorgeous : )
