recommendations for electric sander ?

Random orbit, 5-6" diameter.
Get one with dust collection possibilities and variable speed. Hook and loop is far and away the best paper attachment method IME.

Bosch and Porter Cable are well regarded and not too expensive. Fein and Festool might be a _little_ better but for so many more $$ I hardly think they're worth it. I've been using a Bosch for years and it's still spinning.

TIP: don't apply excessive pressure when sanding, the hooks on the pads wear out fast if you do.

We use a few of these and we have them attached with adapters to our large dust collection.

Your lungs are wewll worth not breathing MDF dust.

Hint with bondo.
The oils on the top layer after the bondo cures is what plugs up the sand paper or disk.
Use a heavy grit to bite into the top layer of the bondo then switch to another paper or disk and the bondo will sand easy and will not plug up the paper or disk.

Now if you are going to sand with no dust collection used or vacuuum on the sander (highly recommended)

Then I would use a PC sander.The sanders from PC us a hard filter not a bag and I can tell you they work very good.

The Bosch sanders use a pleated filter that in my estimation works very well. I'm not saying they are better than the PC filter, as I haven't compared them side by side, but they are very effective.

I read good reviews in an article before I purchased my Ridgid variable speed sander from Home Depot. It is well designed with long cord, hook & loop attachment, and vacuum port capability for large or small diameter vacuum hoses. The sander itself is also reasonably quiet.

I have been very satisfied with it.
