Default Dayton DC160, What to do?

Ok here's the deal. I have 14 of the Dayton Classic 6 1/2" (295-305) drivers. I'd like to do something with them. One thought was to build 7 pairs of 2-ways like the BR-1s or build a 5.1 HT setup. Another thought was to install 4 in a 2>ft tower with a tweeter that I could cross low, say 1500hz. I know the DC160 isn't known for it's superb midrange but I thought with low XO on the tweeter that would help alittle. Anyone have any ideas or comments? Please feel free to share them.

    Thanks in advance.

If you want to make some MTM's of other configurations, then take the 14 DC160, pair each with an 8" SDVC PR, add 23g mass to each PR, and place each combo in a .4ft^3 box, lightly stuffed. The single setup will extend to about 25Hz with room gain, but 14(?) that will be insane! You could also "clamshell" a pair of 8 ohm DC160 in .2ft^3 with the same PR, for less volume. That would make 7 subs, or 14 if used singly.

Put 6 in a cabinet with a Seas 27tdfc/tbfc/g or maybe a HiVi K1 and tune them low as wolf suggested. Play them loud, very often. Keep 2 for spares.

The impedance would be wonky in that config, at about 3.2 ohms. I can see a DC160/PR pair per MTM or such, and use the K1 for best value. You could even use 4 DC160/PR's per cab for MMTMM.

I was considering using 4 DC160's in a MTMMM to keep the tweeter about the right height. Are you suggesting a PR with that configuration as well or use a port tube? I suppose I could go PR side mounted. I'll have to model that in WinIsd alpha and see what I can come up with. Thanks Wolf.

I'm not sure 6 to a cab would work for me. Cab size would get a little tall. I do like the seas tweeters alot. I have never used the HiVi before. How do they compare and how low can I cross them at with the DC160?

    Thanks Chris

Yep- An 8" PR *PER* DC160, each with 23g added mass, or you can model with a larger PR for all 4 DC160.

The hivi is good, I like it, and they are cheap. Zaph suggested 2200hz LR4, but I believe Pete S had a design with it crossed lower. I'm not sure about it's excursion limits and if that could be a problem. The seas' can take a lot, and really don't cost that much.
