I had not seen this yet thanks for the link. Looks like I will need to find an excuse for another $1000 item to make my system complete.

I described the merits of a vibration cancelling type enclosure seven years ago. No one was interested.

I am in that boat, too. Got a lively discussion here a year or so on my proposed opposed woofer configuration and a couple of people argued it doesn't do that. They're most of the way done now (chuckle).

Can someone explain vibration cancelling enclosures, how it works and how you calculate box volume... such as do you double single box volume??? Thanks, I just want to learn more

Vivid Audio uses this principle and explains it well under their "technology" section of their website. I heard these speakers at the RMAF and they were great.

Ok, June is almost past and not even an update on this subwoofer. Anyone know what's going on with this?

I'm sure it's going to turn out to be big hit, but vibration can be effectively dealt with by utilizing the right cabinet geometry (sonotube, anyone?) and for much less money. Proper bracing also goes a long way toward this end with a rectangular cab. Also, with a 150 lb cab, I'm certain a single driver would sound just as good as two coupled. The sheer mass would dampen most vibration.

I think the cabinet configuration is less of a big deal than the beautiful finish and the mic EQ functionality. Anyone can build a rigid low vibration cabinet.

150 lbs... That's got to be in the truck freight weight range. Not cheap shipping.

Totally agreed. That is a great looking cab. I wonder how effective the EQ feature is? I'm guessing that it's probably useful if it's coming from these guys

Single band parametric? Two bands? Three? How much (if any) control will the user have over the EQ adjustments? Will there be a bypass switch to compare EQ'ed/non-EQ'd response? Shipping will easily add over a hundred dollars to the price. Will it be available in kit form? Will the modified amplifier be available to the DIY crowd? Will it outperform a pair of RS 12" 4 ohm subs each powered by the 500 Watt amp? Will it come in cheaper than a pair of the RS12 kits?

Looks like a great subwoofer with some real potential, too many questions right now to make any solid statement on it.

I'd say one huge benefit of the canceling configuration is the ability to build the enclosure "lighter" although this one doesn't seem to do that with all that MDF...

That and the ability to have a completely inert cabinet at any listening level. Imagine balancing a nickel on end on the enclosure at max SPL. With the canceling configuration the enclosure is usually the only stable thing in the entire room.

I doubt you would get a nickel to balance on edge at peak SPL. Even if the cabinet it is resting on is inert, the floor it is standing on probably will not be. The cabinet will move and shake along with everything else. Unless it is floating... Hmmm.... Couple of large magents would do the trick.

ever tried it? It's a common demo of vendors that supply these type of designs. Funny to mention the floating.... there was one vendor I've heard that had a demo of the enclosure behing "hung" from the ceiling on chains.... cranking.... and motionless

All I'm saying is you place an inert cabinet on a standard house floor and that nickel probably doesn't have a chance to keep standing.

Suspended enclosures, if it is inert and balanced enough, will obviously balance a nickel at volume, since it is decoupled from all the shenanigans which occur at 117 db@ 24 Hz.
