Did you use paper backed veneer on the HOSS? I am thinking about doing the mini statement's as a gift for a guy at work who is absolutley saving me right now. I love the zebrawood look and think it would look great on those speakers. One 4'x8' sheet of the paperbacked from joe woodworker would do both speakers for about $150 with PSA.

    What are yout thoughts?

    Hi Don

The HOSS used 10mil, 2ply Santos Rosewood veneer from Tapeease. It is not paper backed, but instead has another ply of wood as a backing with the grain running the other direction. This makes it more stable, but it can't bend around corners like paper backed, though they have an NBL product that can, as well as standard paper backed veneer. I've never used the veneer from Joe Woodworker, so I can't comment on it. I used contact cement for the HOSS installation.

Combine the Zebrawood with either a contrasting painted or second hardwood accent, say on the top, part of the baffle or the legs or a combination of these and you could have an exceptional look. If you use a second hardwood, I recommend making it a contrasting color, but a very simple grain, so it does not compete with the zebrawood, which is a busy grain already. I'd b happy to give you some ideas if you like.

    Good Luck!

    Dan

Thanks Dan. My thought was to do the paper backed Zebra wood and wrap it around 3/4" roundovers to cover each box, then do a top cap of another hardwood like walnut stained very dark or even oak dyed black.

I am still in the thinking stages. So, I may ask for more opinions as the time to build approaches.
