    Default Mr Neil Davis please

If you would be so kind as to post up the link on the internal mods required to make the Accurian wireless speakers work on there own it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Default Accurian powered speaker mods *PIC*

I've got another pair that I need to modify and I was planning to get to them tomorrow.

You will need to drill a hole in the back panel for a 1/8" stereo jack. Then you need to unplug the audio cable from the network board, remove the connector and connect the wires to the jack. It's actually fairly easy to figure out yourself, but if the picture doesn't make it obvious I can take a few more. Just unplug and throw away the network board--it's useless unless you can find one of the transmitters. You can also throw away the L/R/M/S switch and reuse the opening for the jack (see the picture).

I've got a transmitter box if someone wants to use these speakers "as-is". It will send audio across the power line reliably in a detached home or townhouse, but it doesn't work very well in an apartment or condo environment (I tried it at my mom's retirement community and it had lots of dropouts).

The stock drivers are better than many computer speakers, but they are not "HiFi". However, the amps are decent, with plenty of power, and the cabinets are fairly solid. If you swap out the drivers and use an appropriate crossover, these speakers can be very, very good. A while back I tried generating some interest in coming up with some cost-effective driver upgrades, because for $15 these things are obviously a steal, but there wasn't any interest. Oh well...

While you have the amp board open it might be worth changing the two opamps to TL082's. Might be a little less noise that way.

Neil I am trying to tell from the photo if the black and brown are common grounds or are they apart from one another on the the audio input? TIA

You should be able to tell by looking at the back of the board, but I'm fairly sure the black and brown are tied together. So you can twist them together at the 1/8" jack ground, or just use one or the other. That picture was taken a year ago and I haven't opened up the other set I was going to modify yet.

    Default Done?

Were you able to get the speakers working? I didn't do any wiring today--just opened up the woofer mounting hole and routed the rebate to put in an Aurum Cantus AC-130MKII woofer. At least I got the dusty work done. Need to figure out a crossover next and then I'll do the wiring mods.

Send me email if you get stuck.
