Poll: caps and inductors
What are some of you guys using? Im sure it depends on drivers so maybe you could list that too. I mean whether its paper, metal, fiber, etc.
Thanks for the input.

For speakers i use Dayton Poly caps and bennic electrolytics. Madisound aircores or the "Sledgehammer" iron core inductors. Spend the money on the enclosure and the drivers, not boutique crossover parts.

I've been using SOLEN stuff, both caps and inductors for a long time. I also like AEROVOX capacitors. And I try to stick to using only DALE or OHMITE resistors.
And I never, ever use electrolytic capacitors for crossovers.

solen ,dayton, sometimes a small mundorf silver oil cap with a larger solen or dayton. Like a 7.5uf solen plus a .68 uf mundorf to replace a 8uf. think drivers first caps second. sledge hammer inductors. some hi end inductors {goertz 16 awg foil} with hi end tweeters. Dale resistors at newark.com lots of 50watt values good for high power subs, woofers, etc.

I heard positive about them just never bought them.

A standard poly/mylar is decent enough. Usually, it depends on the cost of the drivers to make me swing a higher-cost xover. The topology also matters, as SXO's like less series resistance. In that case I used ferrite-cores or the C-coils. I prefer the Jantzen to the Solen caps, but neither are bad. Some say Hovlands are more for metal-drivers, and some others are non-material discriminant. If you go with Dayton, Bennic, ASC, Solen, GE, Jantzen, or even WIMA or Carli, you shouldn't be disappointed. As far as coils, I like Meniscus' prices, and fit where applicable for the lowest cost. Mad's standard coils aren't badly priced either.

I like the foil inductors and have used them once. A little more difficult to solder up, but values are solid, and they sound good. The wooden-hub is strange to me, as plastic would still work. In my pair they were not glued in, and slide fairly easily. I wouldn't remove them if I were you! =-)

If buying a cap for a specific app(and I do not have the needd values), I usually buy dayton or bennic polys, sometimes Jantzen. If it is a throw-together sort of project I build the values with parts on hand, mostly GE, poly or mylar surplus, and Bennic BP's for shunt values if I do not have the parts or space for poly. Many of my xover's are external, abd it is not uncommon to have 7-8 caps to make up one value. I measure all my caps as well.
Inductors for HP are usually 19 or 20awg air coils, for larger values I like Jantzen P core inductors.
Dayton non inductive or Eagle reistors in thought out designs. I prefer these because the leads are better and less likely to break if/when reused.
Driver cost is a factor in my parts choosing, though with some Neo tweeters, or the HiVi K1, it is easy to surpass the drivers cost. In a series XO I use better, very closely matched parts.
I think wolf's XO box is a good depiction of what parts to use and where.
Hope this helps
