Powered subwoofer not working correctly, HELP!ASAP
Hello guys, i got a problem with my powered subwoofer, its a Cerwin-Vega LW-12 12" 150 watt powered subwoofer. Ive had it for about 6-8 years now without any trouble at all, about 2 nights ago i was using it and when i got home from work, i turned my receiver on ( same one its been connected to for bout 2 years) and as soon as it came on, it started to make a weird noise, like a wave length or a certain freguency that got louder and the stoped and it would do that over and over, it would still try to play like normal but it has this noise. Also everytime this happens the red (off) green (on) light ould flash from green to red and within a few seconds of this noise the light goes red and stays that way, like its going into protection mode. I have taken it apart and connected another speaker to the amp and it still does this, so i know its not the speaker, must be the amp but i dont understand what could be wrong, maybe the power supply is gone? Ive even check the amp for burnt places and the fuse and everything looks just fine. Please help me try to figure out whats wrong or any suggestions would be great. ASAP

Often-times a protection circuit within the amp will cause the whole unit to not work properly. In most cases, there will be no burnt traces to signify a problem- only no output. I would take a look at replacing the amp with a Dayton subwoofer amp, unless you are saavy at amplifier repair (which judging by the question, you are not-that's okay...me neither). best regards, Aric

If you are hooked up via pre-amp level inputs from your LFE output you could try disconnecting those and go for a speaker level lead from your L/R amp outputs and if it's in the front end section of your sub that would bypass that and get you through for a while until you can get it fixed or replaced. Vice, versa, of course, but the former is more likely than the latter - good luck Bro! Also, and a little less likely, if you are using auto turn on try going manual and keep your fingers crossed!
