    Default AV120 v BAMTM

    Hey.

I have been using a pair of AV120's for several years now and they have served me very well. Ye they aren't the greatest speakers and they were quite cheap. Link to AV120's (http://www.acousticsolutions.net/product.asp?ID=3).

Now, i decided to upgrade to some BAMTM's designed by zaph as i heard plenty of good things about these things. But just to test them out i mounted them in the old AV120 boxes, the high notes sound so great and detailed! but there is literally no mid or bass notes! is this soley down to the enclosures or what? (I am building them by the way, just wanted to test!). I sure hope so because this sounds not so great .

    So for newbie question

Well, basically is it possible for the wrong enclosure for the wrong speakers able to cut out all of the bass and low notes?. I hope its just the enclosures otherwise I'm gonna be quite disappointed and gonna need to hook up a sub or something.

Are you just connecting your new speakers to the the AV120 crossover leads?

I'm assuming you're using Zaph's crossover? You may have something wired wrong. I built the tower version of the BAMTM's and I have no complains about mid or bass output. The DA175 is a excellent speaker for the money. If the crossover is wired correctly I'm sure you will be satisfied.

Pretty sure its wired correctly, but i guess you just gota take my word for it. But would the enclosures make THAT much difference that the bass would be totally gone?

If your old boxes are sealed, then your most likely losing at least 3/4ths of an octave. That could be the difference between pooping out before reaching 50 Hz, or being capable of a strong 30 Hz.

Connect a 1.5 or 9V battery to the inputs. Both woofers should move OUT of the box when Battery + is connected to speaker + and battery - to speaker -.

    Default Milk in your beer?!?!?!?!?

I have no idea what the diffeence in box size, driver spacing, port tuning, or baffle size is, but these will all affect the sound.
If the baffle is a different width, you could have some BSC issues. This will in effect make the bass lean or thick depending.

Driver spacing will affect the sound also, the speaker was designed with the drivers in a particular place accounting for phase response and other things.

Port tuning will drastically change the sound as the bass will be either not there or bloated. Box size also plays into port tuning.

In effect what you have done by placing the drivers in a different box is like putting milk in your beer. Yes, it fits in the same glass, but the taste sure is different!

    "just not soldered "

    How is it hooked up?

    Possible bad connection?
