Default If you're listening Bob Cottiers....

I actually did some work on Project X today. I guess all I needed was the right inspiration to get the project off the skids. Oh and Wolf, that stain looks phenomenal on aspen with just one coat of clear gloss lacquer on it so far. I hit it with some 400 grit after it dried and it's smoooooooooooooooooooooooth. I might go ahead and throw a bit more clear on that test piece to see where it goes. I'm heading out to Menards again tomorrow after work to pick up a wider slab of aspen if it's available in the size I need it.

Still many ways for this to not work out, but at least it's moving along. Etching is next. Then laminating, then folding

You'll just have to wait and see. But I expected that you, if anyone, would recognize this. Didn't I send you a copy of a 31-year old article a while back?

    Default You Probably Did....

...but my memory is practically usesless these days. I tried to find your email. Does it begin with "neil" or "davis"?

No, but betcha it ends with "eil". I recognize an unfolded manifold when I see one.

    Best regards,

So when will we see (hear) the finished product, Neil?!? Sooner than the sopper-dooper programmable amps, me hopes :-) Will you post a thorough "how to" for this?????

Sorry. The programmable amp is now working, so this has to be later. I'll post some more info on the amps when I get home.

Probably not, at least right away. The article I sent you was the DIY Heil article that I wrote for Audio Amateur about 33 years ago (published in the 77/2 volume). I'm thinking about writing this one up and submitting it for publication, so I need to keep quiet on all of the details until I make that decision. But if I can get this prototype working it will be available for inspection at DCDIY2008.

That, sir, is very exciting news!!

Okay, my feeble mind recalls this discussion now. That was a very interesting read. I can't make it to DC but I hope you'll do that write-up very soon :-)

Purists would call it a planar instead of a ribbon element. What's interesting about it is the way it gets folded and put into a magnet structure. And what's really interesting about this particular version is the shape of the magnet structure.

As I said, there are still many opportunities to screw this up, so I'm just posting "teasers" until I've got something that works.
