Classic speakers
Anyone care to post their favorite classic speakers?
For me, I would have to say that I am a fan of the old DCM speakers. Their speaker and crossover designs were quite advanced for their time.
I have a copy of the crossover design for the TF-1000. I'll post it later on. Some really interesting stuff.

Re: Classic speakers
I hope I don't get laughed at..but I sure enjoyed my small pair of Minimus 7 speakers I purchased from my local Radio Shack. At the time they were the smoothest sounding small bookshelf speakers around.

Although the crossover was fairly standard, I'd have to name the Smaller Advent and the Altec Lansing 886a as my picks of the Classic era. The Smaller Advent actually needed more power to drive it properly than the larger model--but the bass was deep, powerful, detailed, and articulate. The 886a has since been described in print as "like a Larger Advent on steroids," and indeed they could get loud--and it didn't take much power to do it, either. The Altec was equipped with a ten-inch woofer, a ten-inch passive radiator (one of the very first on the consumer market), and a two-inch CTS tweeter. The Altec factory rep in Germany who sold me an advance pair in 1970 claimed they were the first loudspeakers on the consumer market to be based on the then new Theile-Small parameters. I wish I still had them.

I'm sure not going to laugh at you. I ended up buying eight pairs of the original model--the sealed ones--I always thought they sounded better. Twenty-odd years later, they still sound pretty good. They didn't get to be the largest selling loudspeaker of all time for nothing, you know. A pair of those, or a stack of them, and a decent sub, and for most stuff, you're good to go. An amazing value for the price.

Ohm, in the '70s, had some real nice performers.

Larger EPI's
Like the 350's, 201's and 602's which I own, or the 250's and 1000's that I wish I owned. Very simple designs, short on HF extension and a bit soft by modern standards, but they are still very musical and work great in HT setups.
I'm also fond of any of the large old Altec's, like Corona's, Capastrano's, etc.

Don't laugh at me, but I worked at a radio shack for a spell. The Minimus 7's would go on sale
and we would stack them high in a big display. They would fly out the door. Many return customers would buy several pairs.. Best selling speaker radio shack ever made..

Also some of the old DA's
Design Acoustics also made some interesting stuff in the 70's, like the DA-12, D-8 and D-4.

I'm Not Laughing
They were very decent speakers, IMHO. I can't vouch for their technical perfection but they did/do sound quite nice especially for what they cost on sale!!

I Heard They Were Very Popular w/ Zen Junkies
[chanting] O-O-H-M... O-O-H-M... O-O-H-M...
The more "Ohms" they had the better they'd feel :-)

Re: Ohm
Man, I liked the Ohms too. A friend of mine owned a pair when I was in high school and I always thought they were cool.
Of course, we can do better now, but the memories were good.

Infinity Monitor II's
I actually still listen to these 30+ year old speakers in my music only setup.
four way design, with the ice cream cone shaped Walsh super tweeter on top. 12" woofer in a transmission line enclosure. Very smooth sound.
listed frequency response of +/- 4db, 22-40,000+Hz
