O.T.--Hey Dan Carroll; how about them Lakers!
A big thanks to the Kings for beating the Hornets a couple of games ago, then allowing the Lakers to womp them last night, putting the Lakers in first place in the Western Conference! Okay, the Kings were playing very short-handed last night. Still they gave the Spurs fits the night before. Sports Illustrated had predicted the Lakers wouldn't finish above ninth, and most other "experts" were predicting 7th or 8th, but the Lakers ended up with the best conference record, best division record and best road record in the Western Conference. Now that's as much as I'm going to "rub it in" because the Western playoffs are going to be verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting.

They're still not going to beat Boston!
Sure, they got better with Pao Gasol. And, they decided to start playing team defense. Jackson probably got tired of all that Ben Howland defense stuff floating around LA. Still, it appears that Moirae have destined the crown to the Celtics...
And beating up the currently hapless Kings is of no consequence. I don't think the Kings could beat this year's NIT champion the way the owners have decimated the team.

Re: They're still not going to beat Boston!
Of course Pao Gasol helped immensely but if Andrew Bynum hadn't gotten injured, the outcome would have been the same without Gasol! The Lakers did finally start playing good defense, and better late than never. If the Kings are so hapless, how in the world were they able to beat the Hornets and almost beat the Spurs just in the last few days? Can the Lakers beat the Celtics? Yup, but it won't be easy and I'd rather see the Lakers play the Pistons in the Finals just to get revenge for their last Finals matchup before the Shaq departure to Miami. But, first things first, winning the Western Conference title.

You know where I stand on this one ;)
Finally my beloved Celtics have finally put a team together worthy of being called the Boston Celtics. I think there is going to be a rebirth of the grand rivalry between your Lakers and my Celts starting this year in the finals. It's going to go six or seven if the match-up does come to be. And of course, Celts come out on top. Red will be lighting stogies in the afterlife.

I have hope for next year. Not in the sense that Cubs fans have hope, more in the sense that some real promise has been shown the last couple of months. Still, and even with the common view that Geoff Petrie is some kind of basketball managerial genius, how can the Lakers always manage to make the right blockbuster trade at the right time? It's getting old.

I think there are a lot of fans who'd like to see this rivalry reborn. Here's hoping both our teams do well!
