Morel mdt 38 mod to jordan link fixed again
Provided Link: jordan jx92 morel mdt 38 mod
This link was damaged twice lets try it again:
I used a 4.7uf cap to cross the tweeter at 4220hz or so. This has a rane 2
way crossing the jordans at 80hz to the scanpeak 23 w sub pair. I am going
to change out the rane 2 way to a rane 3 way the cross points will be 80hz
and 4200hz 24db slope for all except the tweeters which will have the cap
extra. I will use all ska audio diy amps to triamp system. This is a
different setup more like a car in the sense that the subs the mids and
the tweeters are in different locations. what is nice about the jordans is
they cross from 80 hz for the low to as high as you want because they are
fullrange. My rane has 3 hi crossover points 4.2k 5k and 7k.
I will try all three to see which is best, This project was costly. The
drivers on sale , ebay or audiogon cost about 700 dollars they list for
1050. The amps are costly as diy they will run about 2 k for 2 stereo and
a pair of mono blocks. The rane was 150 on ebay and the alesis masterlink
9600 for source was 450 on ebay. I spent close to 3300 for this. List
would be around 5k. It is really good. It also hids most of the gear. I
will post a few more pictures next week.
I want people to know that the top mount tweeter trick seems to be good
and that cost less then a hundred dollars. The tweeters on sale at 84 a
pair the oak was 8 dollars at home depot the euro connects were 2 bucks at
pe. Caps were 6 dollars total of 100. What is nice is you can help high
end on lots of speakers. This could be done with pe's hi vi Tn28 for 32 a
pair thus the total cost would be 48 dollars. Remember it is not permanent
just add the bananas with a crossover to the current speaker's binding
post and add some highs. It can also rescue a blown tweeter that can't be
replaced due to availability. phil

For those that want wires hidden. drill a hole and run the wire from the tweeter into the jordan box. you can do this after you found what cap works best. The cap swaps out easy with the euro connects. you can glue the oak tweeter base on the cab right over the hole. the cap end up in the box. if you use a 2.0 cap you will add from about 10000hz and up this is where the jordan starts to struggle.

Sounds like it. You know the tweeter mod to your full range might be interesting. I was inspired a bit by your nice full range. I also thought a bit about some fostex top mount designs from
mad- sound. I wonder if adding the HI-vi top mount to your design would sound good. Phil

FWIW, I don't think it requires one, except off-axis. I don't like the top-mount tweeter from HiVi. Morel always sounds good to me.

Morel tweeter's are really nice. I had never heard the Hi Vi I was curious. I like what you did with your fullrange design. It is nice to see that pe's used it in its flyer.
