    Default Simple brand question???

How is the Pioners speaker brand. Do thier speakers have a good perfomance verses price ratio? How do they compare to the Daton's speakers. I still would rather stick with Daton for my next project.
    Thanks,

Yeah, what's with Pioneer? PE has pages of Pioneer speakers, but never do I see them in any projects on the web.

I really like the pioneers we've used in various, different projects. Particularly the rubber surround units. The clear poly cone units are hard to beat, but thier downfall is in thier foam surround, which does not last.

Most of the Pioneer drivers have a somewhat limited, mediocre x-max, but exceptionally good sensitivity, so they'd be fairly efficient.

B20's have a long reputation in DIY as being a great "bang for the buck" low cost woofer, and have been used in a multitude of applications. Of course you have many other choices available, including Dayton.

My experience with Dayton is limited to Reference Subwoofers, which are not too bad and fairly decent,

titanium dome tweeters, which I disliked terribly

and the aluminum cone DA-175 which I think are the best value in thier price range. You'd be hard pressed to find a better quality 6-1/2" to 7" driver in it's price range.

My brother and I never cared for any of the other Pioneer foam surround units, regardless of thier low price, due to an exceptionally short-lived surround longevity, in several cases where they rotted out.

My friend, Jim D, who occasionally posts here, used the Pioneer 10" rubber surround unit in his "Timbre Wolf" project. (Inspired by forum user, Wolf, for his genius and recommendations in suggesting the use of a Tang Band wide-range driver as a midrange- Hence, the name)

One of my favorite pair of "budget" speakers built by my brother sports a Pioneer 12" rubber surround woofer, a Pioneer sealed-back 5" midrange, and an Audax/Polydax 1" soft dome tweeter. Nice, natural sounding pair for just under a couple hundred bucks. Deep bass and about 92 dB sensitivity, from my recall, which is great if you like your music loud, such as rock music

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
    Eric
